Chief Executive – full-time, permanent, London (flexible/hybrid)
The Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) is seeking a new Chief Executive to lead the organisation through the next phase of its growth and development. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for a highly experienced and energetic senior player to lead a small executive team, along with many highly dedicated and capable Institute members, as we embark on a number of key development projects which will continue to grow our charitable activities and influence in the food sector. The role is a key point of contact and ambassador for the Institute with many senior and influential stakeholders within the food sector and governments.
We are looking for a strong strategic and conceptual thinker, experienced in business and financial management, who can communicate with and influence people at all levels. The role leads a small team and will have significant hands-on involvement in day to day operational matters.
The individual will have attained a BSc or equivalent level, and have demonstrable experience in leadership and people management. They will have a broad understanding of the food (or associated) sector (and preferably experience working in the sector). Ideally, the individual will already have experience managing or running a charity, and so will have a practical understanding of charity governance best practice.
With multiple activities from publishing through to professional recognition and from scientific and technical events and communication through to supporting the next generation of talent, the Institute is looking for a leader who can work creatively and yet in a focussed way to ensure all these activities are progressed.
Ideally, they will have previously worked for a professional membership body and are likely to have experience in the food sector.
About the role:
- Full-time, permanent. London-based (Hammersmith) with flexible working – the individual will be required to attend regular physical meetings, often in London, but with some other meetings in the UK. This role may also include some international travel. Salary: On application. No agencies.

Content development:
- Work with the Information and Content Manager to research, write, edit and produce new information materials including print publications, web pages, videos, etc.
- Work in line with Sarcoma UK’s information production process, including:

Can you harness the power of stories to improve life for people with dementia and those around them?
Our magazine, Dementia together, helps people affected by dementia to feel less isolated and better able to make decisions. We also inspire readers and listeners to be a force for change by campaigning, fundraising and more – people act on the real-life stories and ideas that we share.
You’ll work with the Magazine Editor to plan and create content that reflects the full range of people’s experiences of dementia, being true to their voices while also fulfilling the Society’s aims. You’ll speak with a great range of people in this role – people with a dementia diagnosis, their carers, friends and relatives, supporters, volunteers, activists, researchers, and colleagues across our teams as well as representatives from other organisations.
You’ll help make content available online and elsewhere, producing a podcast and enabling colleagues to draw on our content and material in other ways too.
We never stop improving what we do and how we do it. One example is our focus on finding new ways to involve people with lived experience of dementia in planning and creating content.
This is a homeworking role, but you may be required to travel to attend some meetings and team-days, so you must reside in the UK, have the correct right to work documents to work in the UK and be comfortable/willing to travel to our flagship offices (London or Birmingham) if/when required.

Main Purpose of the Role:
Royal British Legion Industries Ltd. (RBLI) is both a charity and a company limited by guarantee. The trustees of RBLI are therefore responsible for oversight of the organisation under both charity and company law. They are they legal directors, as determined by company law and the Articles of Association. The day to day running of RBLI is the responsibility of the Chief Executive and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). This role, which reports to the Director of Governance, Compliance & Business Systems, supports the board of trustees and the SLT in all areas of governance.
Overview of the Role & Team:
RBLI is a diverse and complex organisation, with divisions that cover social care, property management, estates management, welfare and employment solutions, manufacturing, and marketing / fundraising. There are also several support functions including people and culture, finance and performance, business systems, and risk and compliance. This role is an essential part of the change process currently ongoing across RBLI.
The team is overseen by the Director of Governance, Compliance and Business Systems. Key working relationships include the board of trustees, the SLT, Assistant Directors, the Strategic Assistant, the wider Governance & Compliance Division, and the support functions.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Governance:
- Oversight of all board and sub-committee meetings, ensuring there is an efficient and effective structure to achieve organisational objectives including the review and maintenance of all terms of reference.
- Compliance with internal KPIs in relation to issue of board and sub-committee papers.
- Oversight of all matters arising and actions.
- Support the induction process for new trustees.
- Support the board and committee effectiveness review.
- Submission of all statutory returns.
- Ensuring compliance with the Companies Act and the Charities Act.
- Oversight of any governance related returns.
- Oversight of key RBLI registers such as Declaration of Interests.
- Oversee submission of documentation during the annual audit process.
Company Secretarial:
- Responsible for planning and managing the annual cycle of meetings for the board and sub-committees, including maintenance of the forward plans and agendas.
- Taking minutes of the boards and sub-committees (shared responsibility).
- Oversee the logistics for the meetings.
- Responsible for planning the AGM.
Legal and Assurance:
- Monitor compliance with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, proving advice to SLT and members of staff as necessary.
- Oversight and communication of all compliance policies such as Conflicts of Interests and Gifts & Hospitality.
- Supporting the Director of Governance, Compliance & Business Systems to deliver the assurance and compliance programmes.
Risk Management:
- Managing the insurance process in terms of:
- Collating information in relation to claims
- Submitting claims information
- Supporting the Finance Team in the annual insurance renewal process

This role will support the delivery of our Impact and Evaluation strategy. This area of our work helps us to understand the impact of our grantmaking and creates and evaluates internal and external datasets to improve our work. Our Impact and Evaluation portfolio includes commissioning and undertaking new research, supporting our aim to publish studies on issues that affect children and young people living in poverty.
We are a growing charity and our Impact and Evaluation department has a key role to play in the strategic and operational development of the charity as it grows. This role will support the delivery of that aim by working closely with the Impact and Evaluation Manager.
Responsibilities:
Data Collection: Assist with the collection and storage of research and survey data, including demographic data and outcomes indicators, employing quantitative and qualitative methods. Gather and engage with external open and government datasets.
Database Administration: Retrieve and analyse datasets from internal databases, responding to requests for data from the team. Update and enter data into key dashboards to monitor trends and issues.
Data Analysis: Assist with data analysis tasks, including cleaning and analysing quantitative data using software (e.g., Excel, PowerBI), as well as coding and analysing qualitative data using thematic analysis techniques.
Reporting and Presentations : Assist with the preparation of key reports, dashboards, and presentations summarising key findings, trends, and insights from impact and evaluation activities for fundraising purposes, including developing content for social media.
Evaluation Planning: Assist the implementation of evaluation plans for specific programs or initiatives. Contribute to planning large-scale projects, including the selection of appropriate evaluation methods, data collection tools, and evaluation frameworks.
Survey Administration: Assist with the design, administration, and analysis of surveys to gather feedback from grantees, staff, and other stakeholders. Monitor and act on grantee feedback, sharing relevant results with key staff.
Research Administration: Schedule and undertake interviews/focus groups, supported by the I&E Manager. Manage administrative activities such as contact with participants, transcription and coding.
Collaboration: Support the I&E Manager to collaborate with internal staff, research partners, and organisations in the sector to support evaluation activities.

The Communications Officer is a key supporting role within the Communications team. The post holder will research, write, and publish content across various channels, liaising with teams across the organisation to help identify content. They will report to the Communications Manager and contribute to the work of the wider communications team, helping to deliver marketing campaigns and the communications strategy. The post holder will have a data driven approach and be comfortable reporting on analytics, whether that’s in relation to PR, social media or on specific campaigns. Excellent verbal and written communications are essential to this role as is the ability to work across all teams within the organisation.

About the role

Urban Saints are looking for a Resources Coordinator to join the team as maternity cover. This is a key role that will oversee Urban Saints' online digital resources platform (Energize). In October 2022 Salford City Council commissioned Salford CVS to undertake research into the strengths of the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector as part of their Joint Needs and Strengths Assessment.
Every three years since 2008, Salford CVS leads on State of the VCSE Sector research in Salford and also across Greater Manchester. Working with other local infrastructure organisations, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the VCSE sector. Our last research report was published in 2021 and we have started planning for the research to be conducted this year.
In August 2023 we further developed our VCSE sector research and insight work with the commencement of our Salford 99 longitudinal study. This research project is designed to understand the issues affecting the VCSE sector in Salford and aims to track 99 VCSE organisations every six months for a three-year period, so that we gain ‘live’ insight in between our three-yearly State of the VCSE sector large research project. Alongside this work we conduct a Pulse Check survey with a variety of VCSE organisations to get a snapshot of what is changing for them each quarter.
This exciting VCS Research and Insight role involves a combination of VCSE engagement and insight work across Salford.

- Setup systems and processes to manage new licensing framework and chartership applications.
- Setup systems and processes to manage quality control of applicants and assessments.
- Setup systems and processes to manage billing and data/records management and sharing.
- Setup Systems and processes to assess RA candidates for Chartership.
Support licensing application process
- Manage enquiries relating to licensing applications.
- Process applications for licensing including data entry and file management.
- Working with the Chartership Officer (CO) organise training for licensed organisation assessors.
- Support the CO to develop and manage the Society’s Chartership assessor’s training programme.
- Organise welcome packs & certificates and training materials.
- Ensure accurate record management and compliance with GDPR guidelines.
Provide effective support to Licensed organisations
- Ensure communications are handled in a prompt and professional manner.
- Ensure that Service delivery targets are maintained
- Ensure regular data collection from licensed organisations for their CGeol registrants.
- Organise invoicing and fee collections for licensing and associated fees.
- Organise periodic review of licensed organisations to ensure quality control.
Support Lead generation and promotional activities
- Working with the Head of Fellowship Services, develop and implement initiatives to promote and generate leads for potential partners for Licensing.
