We are looking for an organised and creative individual to join our service supporting Unpaid Carers in Lewisham to improve their health and wellbeing, and access support that meets their needs.

The team works with unpaid Adult Carers, Young Adult Carers and Young Carers and you will carry out home visits and community meetings, complete assessments, co-produce support plans, and develop effective relationships with Unpaid Carers, families, and professionals. You’ll build on your local knowledge to signpost and facilitate access to support services, including financial and benefit advice, housing, health and safety home systems, and leisure and social activities.

To facilitate group work, you will plan and deliver a programme of events, groups, activities, training and workshops. You’ll need to research and book trainers, venues, activities and resources, negotiate value for money, promote the calendar of events and manage bookings. The sessions will offer opportunities for Unpaid Carers to meet with peers, develop confidence, learn new skills, reduce social isolation, and improve their own wellbeing.

Applicants should have relevant personal or professional experience of working with Unpaid Carers and/or vulnerable adults or children in a social care, health, education or voluntary and community sector, as well as experience of planning and delivering a programme of group work.

You’ll need a practical understanding of barriers faced by Unpaid Carers, and an awareness of cultural differences and access to services. You should be an excellent communicator and able to motivate and empower others.

The Consortium for Street Children (CSC) is the only global organisation dedicated solely to achieving positive change for street children worldwide, working with 200+ members in 111 countries. Together with its members and partners, CSC advocates for the rights of street children from the streets to the corridors of power. Purpose of role

CSC is seeking to recruit a new CEO who will lead, empower, and mobilise the organisation and its support to its network members, whilst securing sustainable funding and investment so CSC can deliver its mission. The CEO will be supported by a passionate and talented team of staff, an experienced Senior Management Team, and a fully supportive, engaged, and inspired Board of Trustees.

Primary responsibilities

The job holder will have the following key responsibilities:

Strategic planning and priority setting

· Provide leadership and guidance in the delivery of CSC’s 2024-2029 Strategy, defining priorities to secure sustainable funding and implement the organisation’s goals.

Resource mobilisation and sustainability

• As ‘chief fundraiser’ for the organisation, take the lead in strengthening the organisation’s fundraising strategy and income generation. Be actively involved in working with the staff team to bring in new income (restricted and unrestricted) by conceptualising the presentation of programme, advocacy, policy, and research work and developing customised approaches to donors. Ensure sustainable and diverse sources of income in the face of the current challenging fundraising environment.
• Work with our Development Board and other Trustees to engage with philanthropic and corporate foundations and high net worth individuals globally, attracting new donors and continuing to grow the organisation’s partnership base and international networks.
• Develop and maintain strong positive relationships with donors (United Nations agencies, foundations, multi-laterals, bi-laterals, corporate sector, and individuals) and partners to cultivate support for CSC through appropriate presence and communication.

Building CSC’s profile

• Protect and further strengthen CSC’s external brand, profile, and credibility as a thought leader in the field of child rights and child protection in relation to street connected children.
• Act as a champion and advocate for the organisation by representing the work of CSC and its positions at the highest levels externally and across the political spectrum and globally, including with the United Nations entities and agencies, regional bodies, national governments, and partners.
• Act as CSC’s key spokesperson publicly by writing, speaking and social media posting on issues related to the rights of street connected children.
• Support the ongoing development and implementation of a communication strategy to raise the profile of CSC as the global major leader on issues related to street connected children.
• Oversee clear, targeted, engaging, and inspirational communications on all platforms, targeted at segmented audiences (funders and potential funders, influencers, decision makers, potential allies, and network members) in line with CSC’s core values and positions.

Organisation and programme management

• Manage the work of CSC to ensure an effective organisation that is operating in line with its vision, aim and objectives.
• Ensure supportive staff development and good practice to maintain a positive working environment with regular performance appraisals and professional development plans.
• Work in partnership with the experienced programme staff in delivering the programme strategy. Provide supportive guidance to the team, including robust programme planning, measurement and evaluation, and reporting processes. Support the team in conceptualising the programmes to achieve new and sustainable funding.

Finance and operations

• Oversee and ensure CSC’s fiscal soundness and strength, effective operational and financial management, consolidating financial stability, efficiency, and impact.
• Oversee monthly management accounts, carefully balancing restricted donor funding and project delivery with a balanced budget for unrestricted funded activity.
• Ensure proper financial and procurement procedures are adhered to, in order to meet the highest standards of international donors, UK auditors and the UK Charity Commission.
• Oversee processes to ensure strong negotiations and contracting of all our restricted funded projects, including robust due diligence processes for our subgrantees and donor compliance with respect to cost recovery and other requirements.

Governance

• Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with the Board.
• Ensure the Board is fully supported in carrying out its role and responsibilities and that CSC is fully compliant with UK Charity Commission guidelines, Fundraising Regulator, and good practice for non-profits.
• Ensure the preparation and presentation of an annual workplan and budget for review and approval by the Board and present periodic updates of their implementation as well as of the overall financial status of the organisation.
• Work with the independent Board of Directors in the USA, providing information and assistance so that they can fulfil their potential at establishing a solid funding and advocacy base in the US for our mutual global aim of ensuring the respect, protection, and fulfilment of the rights of street children.

Profile

Experience and skillset

• A senior and experienced people leader, with a significant and demonstrable track record in an NGO or public body, of successfully building and maintaining high performing teams and a culture of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
• Strong financial acumen with experience of income generation.
• A proven record in the cultivation of donors and success in raising funds in the child rights or human rights sector, including from foundations, bilaterals, multilaterals, corporates, and high-net-worth-individuals.
• Demonstrated experience and success in global partnership building, convening stakeholders with diverse cultural backgrounds and driving an organisation to act as a catalyst for social change.
• A skilled influencer with strong communication (oral and written) and ambassadorial skills.
• Experience of effective advocacy with both internal and external audiences.
• Demonstrable knowledge and credibility as a leader, particularly in the field of children’s services, child rights and/or child protection.

We are looking for a Lending Administrator to help us support our work lending to churches and charities across the UK.  The role is critical in ensuring that the administration of the team is managed and organised to a high standard, helping to maintain accurate and up-to-date records, as well as providing a great customer service to those we serve. • Located at a 24-hour supported housing service in Clapham, we provide high quality self-contained accmmodation for 15 women who have experienced homelessness and multiple disadvantage.
• The aim of the service is to provide a therapeutic environment in which women feel safe and can flourish, enabling them to move on into independent, permanent accommodation. The accommodation also includes overnight safe spaces.
• In this role, you will provide direct support to all the women, as well as holding a small case load of residents who you will keywork. 
• You will work closely with support workers and the in-house psychologist.
• You will model person-led, psychological, gender, and culturally informed support, will be skilled at building trust and you will be a great team player.
• The post holder will undertake 8-hour shifts, normally Monday to Friday but with flexibility for weekend working, covering the hours 8am to 8pm. This is a 1 year fixed term contract.

Who we are

Chefs in Schools is a young, ambitious charity that’s rapidly growing. Our mission is to improve kids' health through improving school food & food education. We focus our efforts in areas of high socio-economic deprivation, where more than a third of children are entitled to free school meals and where food-related ill health is driving further inequality. 

We support and train school kitchen teams to become food educators and to serve the best, freshest and tastiest food possible. We share our learning and resources freely, aiming to inspire and enable others to follow our lead.

About you and the role

This role will take our charity’s mission to a wider audience at an exciting time of development and growth. For a small communications team, we punch above our weight - regularly hitting the headlines, getting featured on agenda-setting news shows, receiving pro-bono support from renowned agencies such as Bartle, Bogle & Hegarty and Indigo Eight, and with high-profile influencers such as Prue Leith, Henry Dimbleby and Thomasina Miers in our corner.

Now we need someone with great media contacts, or the know-how to forge them, who can ensure a steady stream of coverage that gets all of our campaigns in front of our key audiences. Key responsibilities:

● Work with the Head of Communications to develop and deliver content, media opportunities and campaigns that help us raise awareness of our cause and achieve our wider strategic goals.

● Evaluate the success of campaigns, setting and tracking key metrics, feeding learnings back into future work in a cycle of continuous improvement.

● Prepare and deliver regular, meaningful reporting on all things communications, to assist and drive strategic decision making.

● Monitor and control spending against delegated budget, clearing any anticipated variance with the Head of Communications in advance.

● Collaborate with partner organizations (including Food Foundation, School Food Matters, Impact on Urban Health and Bite Back 2030) to identify and coordinate co-campaigning opportunities.

● Develop and deliver a patron and ambassador strategy.

● Work closely with colleagues, school chefs and teachers to unearth compelling content that will connect with key audiences.

● Identify, create and secure opportunities for coverage of our charity’s mission in target publications and platforms.

● Create and deliver communications plans, blogs, press releases, campaign briefs, submissions to parliament and more.

● Build networks and contacts within mainstream, education and food-related traditional and social media platforms to secure story and content placement.

● Deal with reactive media queries to tight deadlines, overseeing reparation of briefs and Q&As.

● Oversee content creation for our social media and online platforms, How to Guides and marketing materials, ensuring brand consistency and appropriate audience targeting.

● Ensure any data collection via our website or other platforms is compliant with GDPR and any related or superseding legislation.

● Line manage and mentor two team members, with a commitment to ensuring their career progressions.

Skills & experience:

● You have interest and belief in our mission to improve kids’ health through improving food and food education in schools.

● 3+ years prior experience in a similar role.

● You are organised, methodical, strong on detail, and able to map out deadlines and plan ahead.

● Ideally you’d have some experience of line management, a ‘must’ is a commitment to developing the team.

● You have proven success designing and delivering communications plans and campaigns.

● You have experience successfully pitching stories and/or collaborations to media, journalists and influencers.

● You understand how to create engaging content - both written and visual.

● You see opportunities for coverage and know how to make them happen.

● You’re up to date on media and communications trends and able to stay ahead of the curve.

● You’re capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.

● You’re confident enough to deputise for the Head of Communications when required, such as deciding which reactive media queries to pursue, presenting at events and crisis management if required.

● You can constructively critique the work of others with an emphasis on learning and continuous improvement.

● You have excellent writing skills and a confident command of English.

● Experience of education media would be nice but not required.

The recruitment process

Successful candidates will be invited to a second in-person interview to take place at our offices in Brixton on 10th July.
