The opportunity has arisen to join the Senior Leadership team support staff in an exciting new role at the heart of philanthropic leadership at the University of Oxford. With an initial focus on supporting the fundraising activity of the Executive Director of Development, this new role will increase our capacity to secure multi-million-pound donations from across the globe.

About the Role

The main duties of this post will be the provision of high quality and efficient project management for the Senior Leadership team, including:

• Developing fundraising proposals, briefings and supporting materials for the SLT to use to promote funding opportunities to potential donors.
• Collating information and materials to provide reports for the SLT and other senior officers within the Pro Vice Chancellors’ and Vice Chancellor’s offices as needed for donor and volunteer cultivation, solicitations, stewardship and events.
• Managing donor reporting for key donors, liaising with academics and other key stakeholders to draft reports to donors. 
• Providing follow-up to any initiative which members of the SLT thinks must be tracked but which does not fall within the remit of any of the Development and Alumni Engagement teams, prompting members of the team about action as needed.

To Be Successful You’ll Need:

• Experience of providing a high level of project support in a fast-paced, complex organisation, ideally in a higher education or development environment

Head of Development – Museums and Gardens

We are looking for a talented fundraiser, with a background in the cultural sector to join the Gardens, Libraries & Museums (GLAM) Team within the Development and Alumni Engagement team of the University of Oxford.

You will be working with such iconic institutions as the Pitt Rivers Museum, the Oxford Botanic Gardens, the History of Science Museum and the Oxford University Museum of Natural History.  In this role in any given week you might see a dodo, extraordinary thousand-year old Chinese ceramics, insects collected by Darwin, the first scientifically described dinosaur and drawings by John Ruskin, as well as work on projects involving saving the largest flower in the world or supporting world-leading restitution work.

The collections are important and renowned on their own accounts, but also play a key role in the University’s research.  In addition, they are the open doors to the University of Oxford, encouraging a diverse range of communities to engage our academics and curators.

Your role will include fundraising for major gifts to support the museums and gardens, and leading a team of fundraisers who will work to support a wide range of activities across the institutions.  You will also work closely with the Directors and other curators to raise funds from a range of donors and supporters. You will work with the Associate Director of Development – GLAM to develop strategies and manage relationships with the Directors and be part of the wider fundraising team for GLAM.

Payroll:

Strathclyde would like to appoint an early career fundraiser to the role of Alumni Fund Officer, working within its established and successful Alumni and Development team. This role will deliver fundraising programmes to support the University’s Alumni Fund – a fund which is championed by many thousands of our graduates, and which supports the whole student experience. 

You will deliver a range of fundraising projects including an annual student telethon campaign, direct mail, and digital projects (including Giving Day campaigns). Working across the University, you will develop close and supportive relationships with senior staff and talented students alike.

The University’s Alumni Fund helps students to have an outstanding student experience by funding a range of projects including scholarships for students in need; community programmes; international experiences; learning resources and student-led projects. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) are a unique UK-wide activity that help businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity by making better use of the knowledge, technology and skills within universities, colleges and research organisations.

THE PROJECT 

The University of Essex in partnership with We are the Minories (WATM), an arts charity and gallery in a historic townhouse in Colchester, offers an exciting opportunity to a graduate with the relevant skills and knowledge to develop a data led and long-term strategic plan, to enhance WATM’s growth.

The associate will work with WATM’s managers and University of Essex academic supervisors to ensure WATM's sustainable and prosperous future while keeping their community ethos and values at the heart of their activities. This will be achieved through four key strategies:

1. Developing innovative solutions to evaluate and measure the social impact of WATM’s activities to enhance its success rates in funding applications.
2. Introducing business model innovations to support WATM in improving its income generation, such as through new product/service development (e.g., consultancy) and exploring additional income-generating activities like leveraging its physical space.
3. Enhancing WATM’s capabilities in managing both social and economic missions and supporting them in sharing their knowledge through consultancy to third-party organisations.

DUTIES OF THE POST

The duties of the post will include: 

• Conduct literature reviews and summarise findings for a non-academic audience.

ROLE PURPOSE

This position involves identifying and prioritising potential donors capable of making significant contributions to help us deliver a range of projects aimed at enhancing the student experience and supporting the local community. By providing the Development and Fundraising Team with tailored and insightful research, this role will enhance the prospect funding pipeline and facilitate the cultivation of a diverse pools of donors, including individuals, grant-making trusts, and companies. This role will also manage a well-structured stewardship program for donors. Responsibilities include promptly acknowledging donations, creating personalised impact reports, and overseeing bi-annual events which recognise and celebrate their support.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

· To maintain and develop the University’s database of fundraising prospects through proactive identification, analysis, and segmentation, (individual and aggregate) record updating, and original research, including the identification of new prospects.

·  To prepare prospect profiles (which may include wealth ratings), and work with relationship managers to devise appropriate tailored cultivation and solicitation plans, enabling appropriately targeted fundraising asks.

·  To develop and manage reporting in the database across fundraising portfolios to help ensure prospects are strategically moving along the prospect pipeline towards major gift solicitation • To produce and provide due-diligence reports on prospective donors as part of the University’s gift acceptance procedures.

· To deliver an annual donor recognition event to acknowledge and celebrate the support of the University’s most generous supporters.

· To organise smaller bespoke events for higher level donors to the university, for example, site visits to project sites and/or opportunities to meet student beneficiaries.

· To write insightful and impactful bespoke reports for donors supporting the University, ensuring reports demonstrate the positive impact of support and encourage repeat gift solicitation from the fundraising team.

· To keep abreast of regulations, including the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) ensuring that all prospect research and cultivation is compliant and understood by fundraisers.

CONTEXT

The primary purpose of the Development team is to secure philanthropic income to support the delivery of the University’s Being Westminster 2022-2029 strategy. The Development team forms part of the Global Recruitment, Admissions, Marketing and Communications (GRAMC) directorate. The team also works closely with the Business Engagement Directorate to deliver an integrated approach to the University’s relationships with its key external stakeholders. The Development team collaborates with the Alumni Relations team to inspire and engage the University of Westminster’s vibrant, global community of alumni and supporters to build lifelong and mutually beneficial relationships with the institution.

DIMENSIONS

· The role has no budgetary responsibility.

· This role will be expected to manage a varied workload with limited, direct supervision.

We’re looking for someone who has excellent project management, partnership building and senior stakeholder engagement skills to lead on a new area of work. The postholder will be responsible for developing an insight led, student needs centred and operationally achievable international student engagement strategy. It is essential that you take a proactive approach to develop your own knowledge of inclusive practice and use this to develop the knowledge and skills of colleagues across the Union in engaging International Students. There is a rough timeline outlined the responsibilities section for this role, and once appointed, we expect you to adjust and tweak as necessary.

This role is for you if you are passionate about international students in higher education. If you’re someone who likes taking a methodical approach but is also willing to experiment while the strategy is signed off, essentially taking an action learning approach to this, you will enjoy the level of flexibility and freedom in this role. The Students’ Union and the International Society merged in autumn 2023. The International Society is a student facing brand that encompasses the community building aspect of what we’d like to do as part of a broader engagement strategy. We have good levels of engagement from international students in societies and volunteering and those that run for election to be our full-time student officers. We’re not too sure about whether international students are getting what they need in terms of information and guidance on student life, whether there are any differences in educational outcomes and we think student jobs and employment will be important. We’ve got really good teams who do some of this work already, so you’ll be adding to services rather than creating new ones. This means you’ll really be working at the cutting edge of international student engagement work. How exciting!
